Upstairs Circus is looking for friendly, smart, people-loving individuals who have a passion for creating and a track record of success in the service industry.

Upstairs Circus is a creative entertainment venue (DIY workshop-meets-bar). Our slogan “Create, Drink & Be Merry” covers it all: Upstairs Circus patrons make DIY projects, enjoy libations and have a great time while doing both.

Responsibilities May Include:
– Providing excellent customer service to all patrons
– Checking customers into Project Socials
– Welcoming patrons and directing them as needed
– Handing out project kits and tools
– Acting as a “Project Assistant” to patrons in the shop, giving tips and tricks to customers to ensure each patron leaves happy with a successful project
– Bringing a sense of liveliness to events
– Acting as a bartender when needed
– Shop and bar set-up and clean-up
– Responsible liquor service, including beer, wine and cocktails
– Working various daytime retail hours and normal night and weekend hours
– Inventory assistance

Requirements:
– Available nights and weekends (specifically Saturday)
– Service industry experience (server or bartender preferred)
– 21 years or older
– Friendly and outgoing personality
– Responsible self-starter
– Problem solver
– Must love all things Art, Design and D.I.Y. related
– TIPS (Responsible Alcohol Service) Certification

Job Summary:

Collaborates with co-manager to build and lead a team of rockstar Creative Assistants – that buyin to Upstairs Circus Mission and Values, are well-trained and excel in their positions. Cultivates positive company culture, specifically through leadership, communication, and creating and maintaining an approachable, inclusive and safe workplace.

This position ensures that our environment is simple, accessible & easy to understand so that nothing gets in the way of a creative idea, a well-executed project and the ability for our customers to have a good time. This refers to project stock, bar stock, Project Social process, directional signage, tool accessibility, clutter-free environments, cleanliness, no-mistake kits, facility upkeep, and well-trained, friendly team members.

Manages overall environment, product inventory and stock, bar program, facilities management,  and shares daily operations, human resources, and team member management responsibilities.

Required Skills:

Leadership, professionalism, responsibility, clear communication, coaching, organization, time-management, enthusiasm for Upstairs Circus, confidence in role, and ability to make the right decisions and communicate under pressure or in tense situations.

Hours:

Full time, 40-hours/week average
Tuesday – Friday: ~12pm-6:30pm + 1-2 evening Project Socials
Saturday: Alternating daytime & evening Project Socials with Co-Manager
Sunday & Monday: OFF

Compensation:

Total compensation estimated $50k+/year
Base Salary: $33,280/year
Tips: ~$1,500/month (estimated)
Monthly performance bonuses

Paid Time Off:

Paid Time Off: 10-days/year (accrued) + 1-day for each year worked (up to 5 additional days)
Holiday Pay: 5-days/year – New Years Day, Fourth of July, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day

 

Primary Responsibilities

Team Management, Coaching, Leadership, Culture

Works with co-Manager for Creative Assistant recruiting and hiring and training
○ Assures team member scheduling needs are fulfilled every week
○ Controls labor costs by scheduling the appropriate number of team members per shift
○ Delegation & management of daily operational duties
○ Coaches team members when needed
○ Manages ongoing training and Meet & Makes
○ Terminates Creative Assistant employment when needed

Environment / Facility Management

Cleaning and organization – Takes 100% ownership of store cleanliness and organization. Performs daily walkthroughs to identify tasks that need to be completed to maintain said cleanliness and organization. Self performs and delegates daily tasks as needed.
Facility maintenance – works with vendors to assure equipment is maintained at regular intervals and is in proper working order at all times:  ice maker, dishwasher, refrigerators, soda guns, HVAC, lighting, electrical, plumbing, audio, video, security, etc.
Assures ambiance is on-brand and entertaining and appealing to customers at all times (decor, music, lighting, etc)
  Understands and adheres to brand standards

Product Management (Projects)

Weekly Inventory management and ordering. Runs reports to verify previous week’s sales. Manually counts product inventory levels and orders new supplies as a result of stock on hand.
Project quality control & improvement; keeps track of project problem areas or ideas for improvement and reports back to HQ. Ensures project kits are set up correctly for every shift.
Controls product costs (COGS) by ordering the appropriate amount of inventory each week

Bar Program Management

Weekly inventory and ordering
Ensuring that bar/ food program meets health code and safety standards
○ Assists in curating bar menu to help keep the program local and to the tastes of our customers

Customer Experience Management

Ensures that nothing gets in the way of a customer having a good time
  Ensures all activities during Project Socials meet Upstairs Circus brand standards
  Engages with customers; is a party starter or conversation starter
Ensures every customer leaves Upstairs Circus happy and enthusiastic about their experience.

Daily Operations

Team member role and task assignment
Follow operations process provided, including daily tools and checklists. Ensures necessary tasks are completed
Updates reservations promptly
Ensures project social process is delivered smoothly

Supporting Responsibilities

Reservations & Events Management

○ Communicates with customers via phone, email and in person to book events & confirm reservations
○ Promptly and professionally responds to customer inquiries, comments daily
○ Manages weekly seating chart and reservation calendar
